2013 Eastern Hemisphere Championship

Day One report by sailing-news.ch:
Best Ora conditions prevailed yesterday at Torbole, Italy. with up to 25 kn from the South off Torbole for the Eastern Hemisphere Championship of the Starboats. Two races were sailed and with Diego Negri ITA/Frithjof Kleen GER, one of the favorite teams has taken the lead. With the day ranks 1 and 2, the are clearly ahead of Racchelli/Ferrari ITA and Szabo/Hagin USA. Christoph Gautschi/Dominik Schenk SUI follow on rank 10 of the 33 teams from 9 nations.

Day 2
Cool temperatures, rain and a moderate North wind prevailed on day two of the Eastern Hemisphere Championship on Lake Garda. The favorites continue to dominate the race. Johannes Polgar/Markus Koy GER were the winners of both races and will most probably take the overall lead tonight, when the worst result will be discarded. With the ranking bfd/1/1/1, there result row is (almost) flawless, and only the premature start hinders them to lead overall. For the moment, they are on the 6th place. Diego Negri ITA/Frithjof Kleen GER are still on top followed by Merkelbach/Bartell and Tom Lofsted SWE (living in Switzerland) with Jesper Sundmann SWE as crew follows on 3rd. The best Swiss are still Christoph Gautschi/Dominik Schenk SUI on rank 9. Juerg Ryffel/Alex Gouda SUI are up on rank 15, thanks to a 4th race rank. Michel Niklaus SUI/Mark Strube USA follow closely on rank 16.

Day 3
The Eastern Hemisphere Championship on Lake Garda continued with two races in a fresh breeze. Johannes Polgar/Markus Koy GER - disqualified incorrectly as premature starters in the second race - had their protest accepted and were given average points, just enough to take the overall lead. Diego Negri ITA/Frithjof Kleen GER follow on rank 2 at equal points and an intensive fight for the title in the last race today is guaranteed. Hubert Merkelbach/Gerrit Bartel GER follow on rank 3.

Day 4
Winning the last race yesterday, Diego Negri ITA/Frithjof Kleen GER are the 2013 Starboat Eastern Hemisphere Championship on Lake Garda. With Johannes Polgar/Markus Koy GER, another favorite team finished as 2nd on the podium, completed by Hubert Merkelbach/Gerrit Bartelt GER - already on the podium of the Western Hemisphere Championship in the Bahamas - as 3rd. The past World Champion George Szabo USA with Vincent Hagin SUI as crew just missed the podium in 4th. The best Swiss Christoph Gautschi/Dominik Schenk SUI finished 8th of the 31 teams.
